Decking

Decking

When we’re not indoors installing floorboards, we’re often outside building a new deck in a pool area, alfresco, front yard or anywhere one will fit really. We supply and install composite, timber and bamboo decking of premium quality so by the time we’re done, you have a deck that adds class and practicality to your outside space.

As with all our services, we start by providing you with samples so you know exactly what you’re getting. We always use high quality materials including the bits you don’t see such as the frame and all the fixings because it’s this quality paired with our fine workmanship which ensures you get a deck that lasts a lifetime (assuming you then care for it as required). We even do the little things that we feel make a big difference such as hidden/secret screws and painting the frame black so you don’t see the light coloured pine frame through the gaps.

Composite, timber or bamboo decking?

Deciding on the material you go with for your new deck comes down to a few basic decisions.

  • Style

  • Maintenance

  • Budget

Given the investment you’ve decided to make in a new deck, it’s important you get one you know suits your style and needs and be one that you’ll love for years to come.

Timber gives you a great range of options and you achieve the most natural finish with beautiful colours, grains and variation. However with the growth in popularity and production over the past few years, composite decking has really extended its offering in colours/styles as well as quality so it’s very likely you’ll find the colour you’re looking for and benefit from the reduced maintenance. And then there’s bamboo which offers a point of difference and lends itself particularly well to specific styles/themes such as Bali-esque or tropical/oasis, and looks particularly good in pool areas and when it’s surrounded by a lot of greenery.

After taking into account the style you’re looking for, a key factor really is maintenance. With the raw beauty timber decks offer, they do require the most maintenance out of the three options. We recommend oiling your deck with premium decking oils which we can supply to you at least twice a year to ensure you’re giving it the protection it needs and deserves and it keeps it looking its best year round. If you don’t stick to this maintenance you can also expect to have to sand it back before re-oiling. At the other end of the scale is composite decking which never needs to be oiled or sanded, simply swept and hosed off when dirt starts to build up. There are however some protective oils for composite deck these days if you really want to give it the best chance of looking as good as new for a much longer time. The level of maintenance and the ongoing costs can often sway people one way or the other when deciding between a timber deck and a composite deck.

And of course there’s your budget to consider. There’s no one answer to which option is cheapest or more expensive because one type/brand of composite decking may be cheaper or more expensive that the timber species you choose. Generally speaking though, a timber deck will be cheaper to install than a quality composite deck, but the timber deck has the ongoing maintenance/costs which can end up costing more than composite after a few years.

The average manufacturer’s warranty offered on the deck materials we offer is 20 years to give you peace of mind.

At the end of the day, we’re here to help you decide on the right deck for you and ensure it’s professionally installed so you smile every time you look at your deck.
